By default, the tilt angle of the anchor shaft was fixed at 40°. With the increasing introduction of anchor pockets for stowing the anchor in the ship's hull, there were more and more enquiries as to whether the opening angle could be adapted to the ship's conditions. Since the tilt angle of the anchor shank has a considerable influence on the anchor's holding power, it was agreed with the classification societies that the opening angle may be between 35° and 45°.
